Poor diet, low immune system, stress, hormonal imbalances, food allergies or sensitivities, usage of toothpaste or mouth rinses having sodium lauryl sulfate,  accidental cheek bite, certain health problems, etc. will cause these canker or mouth sores.

Most of these sores can go away on their own within a time period of 1 – 2 weeks, if not then you should consult your doctor for proper diagnose and treatment.

Although there are many natural remedies for treating this canker sore, here we are explaining about an amazing natural ingredient called Baking Soda.

Baking Soda for Canker Sores:

Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is an effective natural remedy for treating many skin, beauty and health problems with its properties like antacid, neutralizer, exfoliator, cavities remover, etc.

  • Pour 1 tablespoon of water in 1 teaspoon of baking soda.

  • Wait for few minutes to get dry and wash it with lukewarm water.

Baking Soda with Water for Canker Sores

Method – 3: (Baking Soda Mouth Wash)

Usage of harsh chemical based mouth washes will even more damage the sores and leave you with burning sensation. So, use baking soda as your mouth rinse to clear the bacteria causing sores and also soothes your pain.

  • Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 cup of warm water and stir well till the baking soda is dissolved completely in water.
  • Now use this baking soda water to rinse the mouth and gargle.
  • Never ever swallow this mix; you should spit it out to clear the impurities or bacteria causing sores.
  • Do this mouth wash for once daily till you cleared these sores inside the mouth.

Baking Soda Mouth Wash For Canker Sores

Note: Or stir 2 – 3 drops of peppermint oil and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 2 ounces of water. Use this solution as your mouthwash to rinse your mouth. Do it once daily.

Method – 4: (Baking Soda with Hydrogen Peroxide and Salt)

Hydrogen peroxide treats canker sores with its strong disinfectant, antibacterial and antiseptic properties that clear the infection causing microbes and relieves your pain. Salt is an excellent remedy for clearing the fluids from the sores and thereby speed up the healing process.

  • Stir small amounts of hydrogen peroxide (3%), baking soda and salt in a small bowl.
  • Use this solution to rinse your mouth.
  • Repeat the same process for 4 – 5 times daily till you get relief from the canker sores.

Note:

  • Or mix 1 teaspoon each of baking soda and salt in enough water. Stir well and apply it on the canker sores. Rinse off with water after few minutes. Or mix this baking soda and salt in 3/4 cup of water and use it as a mouth wash. Do it once daily for few days.
  • Also, mix 2 teaspoons of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of salt and few drops of liquid Benadryl in 1 cup of warm water. Stir and use it to swish all around the mouth for few minutes and spit out. Don’t swallow it and repeat the same regularly.

Method – 5: (Baking Soda with Aloe Vera)

Aloe vera exhibits antibacterial, antiseptic and skin soothing properties that help you a lot in easing the pain and this combination will heal the problem and speed up the recovery time.

  • First of all, rinse your mouth thoroughly with aloe vera juice (prefer fresh juice).
  • Then place a small amount of baking soda directly on the sore.
  • Wait for few minutes and rinse off with water.
  • Continue the same process regularly till you get complete relief from the problem.

Tips and Precautions:

  1. Baking soda will sting a bit, so you should be very careful while applying and also apply it only on the sore affected areas of the mouth.

  3. You can sprinkle some baking soda on your toothbrush and use it to brush your teeth.

The oil which is accumulated on the skin’s surface will attract all the dirt and impurities easily and then clogs the skin pores to form as acne or other skin problems. The best way to get rid of these skin problems is to reduce the excess oil production and its accumulation on the skin.

So, to prevent clogged pores, you have to take some special care on your skin not by using commercial chemical based skin care products but with some natural remedies available at home.

Here we are explaining you some face masks for oily skin by using a natural and effective remedy called gram flour (besan).  Gram flour is widely used in India and other Asian countries to reduce the oiliness on the skin and look fresh.

How is Besan Effective in Treating Oily Skin?

  • Gram flour has a powerful natural absorbent that effectively soaks away the excess oil and also controls the production of sebaceous glands.
  • The natural skin alkalizing property of besan will help to maintain the pH of the skin and thereby controls the excess oil secretion by your sebaceous glands.
  • It acts as a natural cleanser that effectively removes all the accumulated dirt, dead cells, oils, dirt and other impurities from the skin.
  • It unclogs the skin pores and makes you feel fresh and free from infections.

Best Besan Face Masks for Oily Skin:

Here are some methods of using besan or gram flour for oily skin in which you can use gram flour along or in combination with other natural ingredients to get rid of oily skin.

Mask – 1: (Gram Flour)

Gram flour removes oil, dirt and other impurities on the skin to make you feel fresh and rejuvenated.

  • Pour 2 tablespoons of besan in a bowl and stir it by adding enough water.
  •  Whisk it till it forms a fine thick paste.
  • Spread it on the face as a mask and leave it for few minutes till dry.
  • Finally, rinse your face with lukewarm water and pat dry it.
  • Continue doing the same process once or twice daily to get rid of excess oiliness on the skin.

Mask – 2: (Gram Flour with Lemon)

Both lemon and gram flour will help to reduce the production of sebum and restores the pH levels of the skin. Lemon juice will shrink the enlarged skin pores with its astringent property.

  • Place 2 tablespoons of gram flour in a small bowl.
  • Then add 1 tablespoon each of fresh lemon juice and water to it.
  • Stir well to make a fine paste and apply it all over the face and neck.
  • Wait for 20 – 30 minutes and then rinse your face and neck with water.
  • Dry your skin and repeat the same regularly for thrice a week.

Note:

  • You can replace lemon with tomato (salicylic acid will exfoliate the skin). Blend a large ripe tomato and mix enough besan in it to make a paste. Spread it on the face and rinse off with water after 20 minutes.
  • Never go out in the sun for 4 hours after trying this face mask, as lemon will make the skin as photo sensitive and darken your skin tone.

Mask – 3: (Gram Flour with Curd)

Curd (or yogurt) has an astringent property that closes your enlarged skin pores and thereby reduces the sebum production. It also has alpha hydroxy acid and lactic acid that exfoliate the skin to remove the dirt and excess oil.

  • Whisk 2 – 3 tablespoons of curd in a small bowl and add 2 tablespoons of gram flour to it.
  • Stir well to make a paste and apply it all over the face and neck as a mask.
  • Let it sit for 30 minutes and rinse your face and neck with lukewarm water.
  • Dry the skin and continue this face mask for once in every 2 days to get relief from oily skin.

Note: Or use milk instead of curd. Simply, stir 2 tablespoons of besan by adding enough milk till it forms a paste. Apply it on the face and rinse it off with lukewarm water after it dried completely. Do it once daily.

Mask – 4: (Gram Flour with Orange Peel)

Most of the people know that orange peel is one best remedy for treating oily skin, as it absorbs the excess oil from the skin with its rich content of vitamin C. It balances the oil production and thus prevents the skin from getting over oily or dryness.

  • Put 1 tablespoon each of gram flour and orange peel powder in a bowl.
  • Mix well by adding some water to make a fine paste.
  • Apply it on the face and neck thoroughly.
  • Massage gently for 5 – 7 minutes in circular motions.
  • Wait for 30 minutes and rinse with water.
  • Repeat the same for thrice a week on regular basis.

Note: Or you can replace orange peel powder with raw honey or cucumber juice or turmeric with water or rose water to make a fine paste and apply it on the face as a mask to get rid of excess oiliness on the skin.

Bonus Method for you to get rid of Oily Skin….

Gram Flour Scrub with Sugar:

Sugar exfoliates the skin to remove dirt, dead cells, and other impurities and thereby shrink the enlarged pores and unclogs your skin pores. It balances the skin’s pH level to maintain a perfect balance of oil.

  • Pour enough water in 2 tablespoons of gram flour in a bowl and stir well to make a paste.
  • Then add 1 tablespoon of sugar (prefer brown sugar) to it and mix well.
  • Apply this mix on the face and neck.
  • Massage gently with your fingers for up to 5 – 8 minutes.
  • Let it sit for 15 minutes and rinse off with water.
  • Dry your skin and repeat it regularly to clear the excess oil on the skin.

Tips and Suggestions:

  1. If you feel that your skin is over drying after these face masks, then apply some water – based moisturizer to moisturize your skin.
  2. Never ever apply these gram four face packs on your eyelids or under the eyes, as it causes irritation and dries out the skin.
  3. Always apply a sunscreen to protect the skin while you steep out in the sun after these face masks why because the besan will remove the skin’s layer of dead cells and reveal a new layer, which may prone to tanning.
  4. Cleansing, toning, and moisturizing should become your daily skin care routine to control the production of excess oil by the sebaceous glands.
  5. Drink plenty of water and consume a healthy diet to stay hydrated and oil – free.
  6. Use a foam or gel based cleanser to clean your face for twice daily and exfoliate regularly.

Geranium Essential Oil – It balances the oil glands causing the skin to get inflamed. So, mix few drops of rose geranium oil in any carrier oil and apply it directly on the swollen body parts. Massage gently for few minutes and repeat the process regularly till you get rid of the problem.

Juniper Essential Oil – This oil is effective in treating swelling caused due to rheumatism, water retention and premenstrual symptoms. It also detoxifies the body and gives instant relief from swelling and pain. Stir few drops of this oil in any carrier oil and apply it on the legs where you’re suffering from this swelling.

Grapefruit Essential Oil – The strong anti-inflammatory compounds in this oil will help to reduce swelling in the feet and ankles. You can either apply it directly to the skin or blend it with a carrier oil. Rub it gently on the applied areas for few minutes and repeat it twice daily until you cleared this problem.

1. Massage Therapy:

Till now, we came to know the benefits of using essential oils separately but to form a therapeutic mix that has more incredible healing abilities, why not we combine these oils together and apply it on the affected area.

Now let’s have a look on some essential oil blends which help you in relieving your pain and swelling.

Method – 1: (Blend of Grapefruit with Lemongrass and Cypress Oil)

All these essential oils have an anti-inflammatory property that works on the swollen area to give you relief within few minutes.

  • Pour 2 – 3 drops each of lemongrass oil, grapefruit oil and cypress oil in 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of melted coconut oil.
  • Stir all these oil ingredients using a toothpick and apply it on the affected areas.
  • Massage gently for about 5 – 10 minutes and continue this application 2 – 3 times daily till you get complete relief from the problem.

Note:

  • Or simply mix 10 drops each of these oils in a bottle and shake well and use 6 – 8 drops of this oil mix when you need by using a dropper.
  • Also, you can include 10 drops each of fennel oil, juniper berry oil and geranium oil along with the above essential oil mix. Replace fractionated coconut oil with canola or sunflower oil.
  • Remember that swollen feet and ankles are mostly caused due to poor blood circulation. So, to enhance the blood circulation, keep your feet up while using this massage therapy.

Method – 2: (Blend of Peppermint, Lemon and Eucalyptus Oil)

This oil blend is very effective in treating pain and swelling with its pain relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. It also relaxes your mind and body with its relaxing property by acting as a soothing concoction.

  • Pour 2 – 3 drops each of peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, and lemon oil in 1 ounce of melted coconut oil.
  • Stir all these oils in a small bowl using a toothpick.
  • Apply it on the swollen feet and ankles and massage gently for 5 – 10 minutes.
  • Repeat it 2 – 3 times daily to get quick relief from the feet and ankles swelling.

Note:

  • For additional fragrance and relaxation, you can add 2 – 3 drops of lavender oil to this oil mix before application.
  • If you’re suspecting that swelling is caused due to any infection then you can replace eucalyptus oil with tea tree oil, which contains antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties to get rid of the infection.

2. Foot Soak:

Soaking your feet in essential oils will also help you in treating the swollen ankles and feet. Here are some ways which you try it to get rid of the problem.

Method – 1: (Chamomile Essential Oil)

Chamomile oil reduces the inflammation, relieves your pain and soothes the nerves and aching muscles. Always prefer to use German chamomile essential oil for these foot soaks, as it contains azulene compound that helps a lot in reducing the swelling.

  • Fill the foot tub (medium tub) with warm water and add 5 – 10 drops of chamomile oil to it.
  • Stir and soak your feet in this water for at least 10 minutes (or till the water stays warm).
  • Do this foot soak for 2 – 3 times daily for best results.

Method – 2: (Wintergreen Essential Oil)

Wintergreen oil is highly effective oil with strong nature that helps to reduce the swelling and relax your sore feet and ankles. It acts as a pain reliever that widely used to treat many conditions like muscle pain, headaches, painful ankles, and feet.

  • Fill a medium tub with warm water and pour 2 – 3 drops of wintergreen essential oil to it.
  • Adding other essentials oil like 5 – 8 drops of peppermint, lavender, geranium, lemongrass or cypress essential oil will complement this mix and aids in quick relief.
  • Stir and soak your feet in this water for 10 minutes (or till the water is warm).
  • Continue this process for 2 – 3 times daily till you reduce the pain and swelling.

Note: Also, after soaking, dry your feet and massage the affected area gently with essential oil blend for getting quick relief.

Method – 3: (Juniper Essential Oil)

Juniper essential oil helps a lot in treating your pain and swelling with its anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties, as I mentioned in the above.

  • Pour few drops of juniper oil in a small tub filled with lukewarm water.
  • Stir and dip your feet in this water and leave it for 15 – 20 minutes.
  • You will experience the relief from swelling within few minutes.
  • Repeat this foot soak once or twice daily.

Method – 4: (Essential Oil Blend)

Using more than one essential oil will help you in clearing the fluids stored in your limbs and thereby relieves your swollen ankles and legs.

  • Mix 1 drop each of lemon oil and geranium oil and 2 drops of lavender oil in your small tub filled with warm water.
  • Stir and dip your feet in this water, make sure that ankles and feet are properly dipped in water (check water level).
  • Soak your feet for 5 – 10 minutes (not more than 10 minutes) and dry it gently.
  • Repeat it once or twice daily.

Tips and Precautions:

  1. Pregnant women and children below 7 years should not use essential oils for treating any problem.
  2. If you’re suffering from swollen ankles, then place some stones or pebbles in the bottom of the tub and gently rub your soles over them to get extra relaxation but don’t do it if you’re suffering from swollen feet.
  3. Always keep your body well hydrated by drinking more of water to flush out the toxins, salt, and other impurities.
  4. Prefer to take an Epsom salt bath, which contains anti-inflammatory and skin soothing properties along with clearing the water retention in the body.
  5. Don’t wear tight clothes, as it can restrict the proper flow of blood to your limbs and thereby causes retention of water and fluids.

  • Mix 2 tablespoons of sugar in 1 tablespoon of almond oil in a bowl to make a scrub paste.

Method – 4: (Almond Oil with Fruits)

Here are some combinations of fruits with almond oil used to lighten the skin tone.

  • With Banana – Banana enhances the collagen production and makes your skin supple and well moisturized. Mix 1 teaspoon of almond oil in 1 mashed ripe banana to make a thick paste. Apply it all over the skin, massage and rinse after 20 minutes with cold water. Repeat it thrice in every week.

  • With Aloe Vera – Mix 1/4 teaspoon of lemon juice in 1/2 teaspoon of aloe vera gel and apply it on the stretch marks. Massage for a couple of minutes and rinse with water. Dry the skin and follow it regularly.
  • With Olive Oil and Vitamin E Oil – Add 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice in 1 teaspoon each of olive oil and vitamin E oil. Stir and apply it on the stretch marks. Massage gently and leave it to dry naturally. After that, wipe off the mix with a tissue or a cloth. Continue it for twice daily.

Method – 5: (Lemon with Salt, Milk, and Sugar)

  • Stir manuka honey, sugar and olive oil and transfer this mix into an airtight container. Refrigerate this mix for few hours to get solidified. Use it daily as required to get rid of the dry or chapped lips.
  • Melt 4 teaspoons of coconut oil and 1 teaspoon of beeswax pellets in a double boiler. Remove the flame and mix 1/2 teaspoon each of raspberry powder, zinc oxide powder, and honey in it. Transfer this mix into a lip balm container and keep aside to solidify. Use it daily to enjoy moisturized smooth lips.
  • Melt 1 tablespoon of beeswax and 2 tablespoons of olive oil using a double boiler. Then add 2 drops of essential oils and 1/2 tablespoon of manuka honey in it. Stir well and pour it into a container. Let it cool and use it as needed to enjoy soft and gorgeous lips.

Tips and Precautions:

  1. You can also apply honey occasionally to moisturize the lips and to make it soft and supple.
  2. It should not be given to infants or people with compromised immune system (due to age or illness) why because it results in botulism (a fatal illness).
  3. Always avoid the usage of honey, if you’re allergic to pollen, as it causes some skin allergic reactions.
  4. Licking the lips will worsen the problem, as saliva dries the skin and thereby make the lips to take more time to get moisturized. So, avoid licking your lips, instead apply honey or lip balm.
  5. Drink plenty of water and consume a healthy diet to prevent dehydration and also to get moisturized from inside the body.
  6. Peeling the chapped skin from lips will provide space for infections to enter into the lips. So, avoid peeling the skin instead apply honey or natural lip moisturizers.
