  1. Most people get confused with acidity and acid reflux but both are different with a little bit of difference. Acidity occurs due to over production of HCL and acid reflux occurs due to the black flow of acid to the esophagus.

Ringworm (Dermatophytosis or tinea) is a fungal infection that commonly affects, skin, scalp, and nails. It is a contagious infection that causes round scaly patches with a darker border in the shape of a ring.

It causes redness, itching, irritation, and inflammation and if not treated on time, then it results in skin blisters. Remember that the fungus will thrive in warm moist areas of the skin.

Ringworm on the skin is called tinea corporis, on scalp called tinea capitis and on feet called athlete’s foot. Are you one among those people suffering from ringworm? Then stop worrying and start using many natural remedies rather than OTC medication or creams.

Home Remedies for Ringworms:

Here are some natural remedies to treat this ringworm on the skin at home. All you need is to follow these home remedies along with some personal skin hygiene to get rid of ringworm.

Remedy – 1: (Garlic)

The ajoene, an antifungal agent present in garlic helps to treat ringworm effectively. It also exhibits antimicrobial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that help to relieve you from pain, itching, and irritation.

Here are some ways of using garlic for treating ringworm.

  • Peel a clove of garlic and cut it into slices. Place these garlic slices on the ringworm affected areas. Wrap it using a bandage and leave it for overnight. Repeat it regularly.
  • Make a thick paste by grinding few garlic cloves and apply it on the ringworm affected skin area. Repeat it few times daily.
  • Crush 2 – 3 garlic cloves and mix 3 tablespoons each of olive oil and raw honey to it. Apply the paste on the ringworm affected area and rinse off with warm water after an hour. Repeat 2 – 3 times daily.

Remedy – 2: (Apple Cider Vinegar)

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) has anti-fungal, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that help to heal pain, irritation, and inflammation. It has high acidic nature that makes the fungus can’t thrive into the skin and balances your skin pH levels.

  • Clean the ringworm affected area and pat dry it.
  • Dip a cotton ball in undiluted ACV and dab it on the ringworm affected area.
  • Or you can apply ACV on the affected skin by using gauze or a clean cloth or a towel.
  • Let it sit for few minutes and rinse off thoroughly with water.
  • Continue doing the same process for 3 – 4 times daily till you get rid of ringworm.

Note: Make sure to do some skin patch test before using ACV to know whether it causes any allergic reaction on the skin.

Remedy – 3: (Tea Tree Oil)

Tea tree oil treats ringworm with its antiseptic, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to restrict the growth of fungi and penetrates deep into the skin to clear it from inside the skin.

  • Clean the ringworm affected area and dry it completely.
  • Pour few drops of tea tree oil (or lavender oil) on a cotton swab and dab the swab on the ringworm.
  • Be sure that the rash should be completely covered with the oil.
  • Let it sit for few minutes and rinse off with water.

Note: If the application of undiluted tea tree oil is causing irritation then dilute 1 teaspoon of tea tree oil in 1/2 cup of warm water (or carrier oil) and apply it on the ringworm using a cotton ball. Repeat it 2 – 3 times daily.

Remedy – 4: (Raw Papaya)

Papain and chymopapain are two enzymes present in raw or green papaya. These enzymes are effective in destroying the defense shields of various types of fungus, yeasts, and virus and thereby clear the old dead cells from the outer surface of the skin.

They also cure inflammation and repairs the skin heal quickly from the damage of fungus.

  • Cut a small piece of raw papaya and rub the piece on the ringworm affected areas.
  • Or simply apply a paste prepared by grinding raw papaya piece, on the ringworm area.
  • Let it sit for about 15 – 20 minutes and rinse off with warm water.
  • Repeat the same process for 2 – 3 times daily till you get complete relief from the problem.

Note:

  • Or grind dried seeds of fresh papaya to make a powder. Mix enough water to make a fine paste and apply it on the infected skin. Rinse off after 15 – 20 minutes with warm water. Repeat 2 – 3 times daily.
  • Also, apply juice extracted from fresh papaya leaf on the ringworm infected areas to treat ringworm.

Remedy – 5: (Salt)

Salt has astringent and disinfectant properties that speed up the healing process of ringworm. it dries the skin and makes the fungus unable to survive on the skin’s surface.

Here are few ways of using salt for treating ringworm.

  • Mix 1/4 – 1/2 cup of salt in a large bowl filled with warm water. Stir well and soak the ringworm affected area in this salt water for 15 – 20 minutes. Repeat regularly.
  • Mix enough water in salt till it for like a scrub paste. Use this salt scrub to rub the ringworm infected area using a washcloth. Do the same process 15 – 20 minutes daily.
  • The combination of salt and vinegar helps to balance the skin’s pH levels. Mix 2 tablespoons of vinegar in 1 tablespoon of salt to make a fine paste. Apply it on the ringworm and rinse off after 5 – 10 minutes. Do it once daily till you get complete relief from the problem.

Remedy – 6: (Lemongrass)

Lemongrass has antiseptic, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties that clear ringworm. When taken internally, it flushes out the toxins from your body and heals the problem.

  • Crush or grind fresh lemongrass leaves by adding buttermilk to make a paste.
  • Apply this lemongrass paste on the ringworm infected areas.
  • Let it sit for 20 – 30 minutes and rinse off with water.
  • Repeat the same process till you get complete relief from the problem.

Note:

  • Or mix 3 – 6 drops of lemongrass essential oil in 2 tablespoons of carrier oil. Stir well and apply it on the ringworm infected area. Rinse off with 4 – 5 times daily till the infection disappears.
  • Also, drink lemongrass tea for thrice daily to clear ringworm.

Do’s and Don’ts:

  1. Apply virgin coconut oil (or) fresh aloe vera gel (or) licorice tea (or) basil juice (extract juice from crushed basil leaves) (or) colloidal silver gel (or) camphor oil (or) iodine tincture on the ringworm infected area to get rid of the problem.

DIY Wrinkle Release Spray for Clothes

Are you in a hurry to go for a party or traveling or meeting and forgot to iron your dress due to your busy lifestyles? Then stop worrying and start spraying the wrinkle releaser on the cloth.

Although buying those commercial wrinkle releaser sprays will cost you a lot and might be filled with chemicals, then why don’t we make the spray at home with simple natural ingredients?

Spray – 1: (Wrinkle Release using Fabric Softener)

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of liquid fabric softener in 1 cup of water.
  • Stir well and pour it into an empty spray bottle.
  • Shake well and spray it on all over the wrinkled garment.
  • Make sure that the cloth should be slightly damp but not wet.
  • Then shake the fabric with your hands to loosen and remove wrinkles.
  • Air dry the cloth and when the cloth dries off, the wrinkles will be gone.
  • Do this spray whenever you need your clothes to be wrinkles free.

Note:

  • Or you can mix 3 – 5 drops of lavender essential oil to this spray for extra fragrance.
  • Or simply add 1 teaspoon of rubbing alcohol (or isopropyl alcohol) in this spray and use it to evaporate the spray quickly on the cloth).

Spray – 2: (Wrinkle Release Spray using Vinegar)

  • Mix 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar in 1 cup of water.
  • Pour this mix into an empty spray bottle and shake it well.
  • Spray it over the wrinkled garment in such a way that it should be slightly damp but not wet.
  • Tug on the garment with your hands and let it air dry completely.
  • Then it’s ready to wear a wrinkle free garment.

Note:

  • Or mix few drops of lavender essential oil (or your favorite essential oils) in this spray.
  • Also, remember that vinegar smell will disappear when the cloth gets dried completely.
  • Or mix 1 tablespoon of vinegar laundry softener with 1 cup of water. Pour it in a spray bottle and use as a wrinkle remover spray.

Spray – 3: (Wrinkle Release Spray using Hair Conditioner)

  • Mix 1 teaspoon of hair conditioner and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar in 2 cups of water.
  • Pour this mix into a spray bottle and shake it well.
  • Spray it lightly on wrinkled clothes till it becomes damp but not wet.
  • Taut it using your hands to smooth out the wrinkles and dry it completely.
  • Finally, wear those wrinkle free clothes.

Note: Or simply, mix 1 cup of hair conditioner, 1 ½ cups of distilled white vinegar and 2 tablespoons of isopropyl alcohol in 3 cups of lukewarm water. Pour it a spray bottle and shake well. Spray it on a wrinkled cloth to make it wrinkle free.

Spray – 4: (Wrinkle Release Spray using Baking Soda)

  • Mix 1/2 cup each of baking soda and distilled water in a bowl.
  • Add 3 cups of distilled white vinegar slowly (1 cup at a time) to it.
  • Then it starts a fizzing reaction and let it sit till the reaction is over.
  • Now add 3 cups of water and 10 drops of favorite essential oil to this mix and stir well.
  • Pour this mix into a spray bottle and store it in a closed cabin.
  • To use, shake it well and spray on the cloth and do a quick iron using your hands to remove the wrinkles. Hang it to dry and wear it.

Tips and Precautions:

  1. Carry a small bottle of this wrinkle release spray during your travel which helps to keep your clothes wrinkle free.
  2. It’s suggested to spot test the wrinkle releaser on a small area of your garment to know that it not damaging the cloth’s color.
  3. Also, it’s preferred to use only colorless essential oils for not to stain your clothes.

Natural Remedies to Soothe Colic in Babies

An unexplained or intermittent crying of a healthy child for more than 2 – 3 times a day is termed as baby colic. This situation lasts for more than 3 hours a day, 3 days a week and 3 weeks.

It is a distressing and frustrating situation to both baby and parents. However, the exact cause is not known but it may happen due to air trapped in the abdominal cavity and parents who smoke during or after pregnancy are more prone to developing colic.

Pain, predictable crying episodes, crying without proper reason, moaning, cramping, intense crying, changes in their posture, finicky behavior, etc. are some of the symptoms. Lactose intolerance, feeding of anxious parents to the baby, allergies, changes of good bacteria in the digestive system, etc. are some of the causes for baby colic.

Don’t panic, you can handle this situation properly and end the colic situation with some simple natural home remedies which alleviate the child’s fussiness and discomfort.

Home Remedies for Baby Colic:

Here are the best natural ways that widely used by many moms for treating colic in their babies. Follow them regularly to get rid of the problem.

Method – 1: (Warm Bath)

A warm bath to your baby while suffering from colic times will give a soothing effect to them and this also distracts the baby from the pain and irritation and thus makes them relax and sleep without crying.

  • Add few drops of lavender oil in your baby’s bathtub which is filled with warm water.
  • Bath your baby in this water for few minutes and gently massage their tummy to relieve painful trapped gas.
  • Dry your baby’s body using a soft towel and sleep them.
  • Continue doing the same process regularly till they get relief from this colic problem.

  • Slightly warm the oil (olive oil or coconut oil or almond oil) for few minutes.
  • Then apply this oil on your baby’s tummy and massage gently for few minutes in circular motions.
  • For best results, massage your baby’s hands, pelvis, and feet for few minutes.
  • Repeat the same process for several times daily till you get relief from the problem.

Method – 3: (Chamomile Tea)

Chamomile has sedative and antispasmodic properties that give some relief from the intestinal cramping and induce relaxation.

  • Place a teaspoon of chamomile flowers in 1 cup of hot water.
  • Cover it and steep it for about 10 – 15 minutes.
  • Strain the tea and pour the warm tea into your baby bottle and feed them to get rid of the problem.
  • Repeat the same for once or twice daily till you get relief from the problem.

Note:

  • Also, use pre-packed chamomile tea bags instead of flowers (or) if you’re a nursing mother then drink 1 – 2 cups of chamomile tea (not allergic to pollens).
  • Or use dried basil leaves or dried mint leaves instead of using chamomile flowers and do the same process as above.

Method – 4: (Asafetida)

Asafetida has an anti-flatulent property that aids in digestion and relieves your baby from the trapped gas.

  • Mix a pinch of asafetida powder into 1 tablespoon of water.
  • Heat the mix for few minutes and cool it.
  • Then spread this mix around the baby’s navel and rub it gently.
  • Repeat the same for 2 – 3 times daily to get rid of baby colic.

Note: Also, mix a pinch of asafetida powder in your baby’s food, those who started eating solid foods (or) breastfeeding mothers can drink 1 glass of warm milk by adding 1/2 teaspoon of asafetida powder for twice daily.

Tips and Precautions:

  1. Exercise (knee pushes) to your baby will ensure proper digestion and relieves colic pain. Lay your baby and hold their knees gently. Bend the legs at the knees slowly and start pushing them towards tummy. Hold this position for a count of 4 – 6 and continue several times daily.
  2. Protein in milk or baby formulas or breastfeeding or dairy products will cause colic in some babies. So, eliminate dairy products and replace with soy products for 2 – 3 days to get rid of colic caused due to lactose intolerance.
  3. Playing soothing music will help to cool down your baby from colic crying. So, set your background noise or music that diverts your baby attention. Also, sing some soothing music by holding your child in different positions or place them in vibrating crib.
  4. Fennel, ginger, aloe vera, lemon balm, caraway, blackthorn, vegetable charcoal, etc. are some of the herbal remedies used for treating colic in babies. But be sure to consult your doctor before taking them to know the right dosage.
  5. Burp your infants to release the gas trapped in the intestine, especially after feeding your baby.
  6. Papaya, probiotic yogurt, garlic, ginger, fennel seeds, cumin or ajwain water, asafetida, etc. has to be included in the list of the nursing mother to avoid infant colic.
  7. Beans, coffee, dry fish or prawns, spicy dishes, milk or dairy products, certain vegetables, chicken, eggs, pulses, certain spices, nuts, citrus fruits, etc. should be excluded by the nursing mothers to prevent colic.
  8. Never ever shake your baby due to frustration and its best to give your baby to some other trusted adults or place your baby safely in a crib while suffering from colic.
  9. Try to lay your baby on their tummy for about 15 – 20 minutes daily. Also, hold your baby as upright as possible during the breastfeed to avoid gas trapping in their abdomen.
  10. Keep your baby in motion to get rid of colic cry and pain and also feed your baby as often as needed to stop the colic but don’t forget to burp them after feeding.
  11. If you didn’t observe any relief from these colic symptoms after few days, then consult the pediatrician to know the exact reason and treatment accordingly.
