It is caused due to cold, flu, allergies, sinus infection, inflamed blood vessels and other abnormalities in your nose structure. Sneezing, sinus pain and pressure, blocked nose, swelling of nasal tissues, etc. are some of the symptoms of a congested nose.

However, the usage of over the counter nasal sprays will provide quick relief from nasal congestion but they can be addicting, which makes you to depend completely on the sprays to breathe. Don’t panic, there are many natural ways which will safely relieve your nasal congestion.

Home Remedies using Stuffy Nose:

Listed below are the best natural cures that provide relief from pain and pressure of stuffy nose along with removing mucus.

Remedy – 1: (Garlic)

Garlic has antiviral, antimicrobial and antiseptic properties that fight against the infections causing congestion in the upper respiratory system. It helps to thin the mucus and clears your nasal congestion.

Steps to be followed…

  • Add 2 – 3 chopped garlic cloves in 1 cup of boiling water.
  • Then add 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder in it.
  • Stir and bring it a boil.
  • Turn off heat and strain the mix to drink it.
  • Daily intake will help you to get rid of congestion and thereby stuffy nose.

Note: Consume few fresh garlic cloves daily or include it in your daily diet to relieve congestion and stuffiness.

Remedy – 2: (Apple Cider Vinegar)

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) thins the mucus and strengthens the immune system with its rich content of several nutrients, enzymes, and acids to clear the congestion.

It has potassium that thins the mucus, acetic acid prevents the growth of bacteria or microbes causing respiratory infections.

Steps to be followed…

  • Add 1 teaspoon of honey and 2 tablespoons of raw and unfiltered ACV in 1 cup of warm water.
  • Stir well and drink it to get loosen the mucus from the sinusitis and nasal passage.
  • Drink it for 2 – 3 times daily till you get relief from congestion, sinus drainage and stuffy nose.

Remedy – 3: (Steam Inhalation)

Steam is a most popular old folk remedy used to give instant relief from stuffy nose. It works as a natural expectorant that clears congestion. It thins the mucus and lubricates the irritants in the respiratory tract to remove it effectively.

Steps to be followed…

  • Add 1 tablespoon of crushed carom seeds to boiling water.
  • Stir well and inhale the steam by placing your head near the bowl with that water.
  • For best results cover yourself along with the bowl with a towel to prevent the escape of vapors. Also, add few drops of peppermint essential oil in water before inhalation.
  • Do this process for 2 – 4 times a day (particularly once before bedtime) will help to get rid of congestion.

Note:

  • Or add 3 teaspoons of antiseptic herbs (like dried thyme and dried peppermint) in a large bowl filled with hot water. Inhale the steam vapors for few minutes till you ease breathing.
  • Or simply pour few drops of peppermint oil or eucalyptus oil in hot water and inhale the steam to get rid of stuffy nose.
  • Steam inhalation is not recommended for pregnant women, young children and people having high blood pressure, central nervous system disorders or heart problems.

Remedy – 4: (Ginger)

Ginger has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that thin the mucus and clears stuffy nose problem.

Steps to be followed…

  • Slice a 3 – inch piece of ginger root and place it in a saucepan.
  • Pour 2 cups of water and boil it for few minutes.
  • Cover it and simmer on low heat for 20 minutes.
  • Then soak a clean washcloth in this water and wring it to remove excess water.
  • Place it on the face by lying down on the bed with your head elevated.
  • Repeat the same process for 2 – 3 times daily until you cleared the sinusitis.

Note: Alternatively, chew few small ginger pieces or drink hot ginger tea by adding some honey and lemon juice or include ginger in your daily diet to clear congestion.

Remedy – 5: (Hot Herbal Teas)

Hot tea helps to thin the mucus the clogs your nasal passage. The herbal tea helps to flush out the toxins from the body to prevent congestion.

Steps to be followed…

  • Herbal teas like peppermint tea have menthol which thins the mucus and opens up the nasal passage.
  • Drink 1 cup of hot peppermint tea for few times daily till your congestion clears.

Note: Alternatively, have hot chicken soups or other hot soups, other herbal teas like ginger, chamomile, cayenne pepper tea, etc. to get relief from stuffy nose.

Note:

  • Or mix 2 teaspoons of lemon juice, some pepper powder and a pinch of salt and apply it around the nasal area.

Remedy – 7: (Neti Pots)

Neti pots have become a popular remedy used for treating upper respiratory problems like cold, flu, nasal and sinus congestion, etc. make sure that there should be some practice of using this neti pot or else it worsens your conditions.

Steps to be followed…

  • Fill the neti pot with saline solution (prepared by mixing salt in warm water).
  • Then insert the spout in one nostril and tilt your head to the other side.
  • Do it in the sink and allow the solution to flow up into that nasal passage.
  • Then the solution will come out from the other nostril by washing the mucous and irritants from the nasal passage.
  • Repeat the same for the other nostril to clear away all the mucous causing congestion.
  • Continue doing the same process regularly until you cleared the nasal congestion and sinusitis.

Note:

  • Using saline nasal sprays (prepared by mixing 2 – 3 teaspoons of non – iodized salt in 1 pint of distilled water) works well by thinning the mucus and soothes the nasal inflammation. Regular usage will clear the pollen or bacteria irritating the airways.
  • For babies suffering from nasal congestion, use either saline solution or a bulb syringe to gently remove the mucous.

Remedy – 8: (Tomato)

Tomato is rich in vitamin C and other nutrients that boost up the immune system and works well to open up the sinuses. It helps to remove the mucous and inflammation in the blood vessels to prevent congestion.

Steps to be followed…

  • Add 1 tablespoon each of chopped garlic and fresh lemon juice, 1/2 tablespoon of hot sauce and a little of celery salt in 1 cup of tomato juice.
  • Place it on heat and bring it to a boil for few minutes.
  • Turn off the heat and drink this hot tomato spicy juice for twice daily to prevent blockage of your nasal passage.

Note: Alternatively, soak few fenugreek seeds in 1 ½ cup of water. Boil it for few minutes and strain it to drink warm fenugreek tea. Repeat it regularly.

Tips and Precautions:

  1. Drinking plenty of fluids will help to break your congestion and thus makes your throat moist. Drink water, fruit or vegetable juices, ginger ale, soups or buttermilk to get rid of dehydration.
  2. Run a humidifier in your bedroom to break the congestion by adding moisture to the air which helps to get rid of sinus inflammation, loosening the mucus in sinusitis and clears stuffy nose.
  3. Gently blow your nose regularly to clear your mucous but be sure that not to blow hardly as it causes an earache.
  4. Gargling with salt mixed with warm water will help you to get relief from congestion. Also, drink hot liquids like hot herbal teas to soothe the inflamed lining of the nose and throat.
  5. Menthol, eucalyptus and camphor help to open up the breathing passages due to its mild numbing property. Just rub a little oil on the base of the nose to relieve pain.
  6. Placing hot packs on the sinuses help to open up the congested nose. Just heat a damp cloth in a microwave for 30 seconds and place it on the sinusitis.
  7. Sleeping with an extra pillow under your head will help to give relieve from congestion and clears mucous. For best results,  pour few drops of eucalyptus oil on the pillow which helps to open up your blocked nose.
  8. Consult your doctor if you didn’t get any relief from this viral infection within 7 – 10 days (or) experiencing certain symptoms like high fever, wheezing, tooth pain, one sided nose bleeds, shortness of breath, etc. to get diagnose and treatment.

Home Remedies for Puffy Eyes

Waking up with puffy eyes will make us embarrassed and frustrated, as it reminds us about our health and lifestyle. Puffy eyes have become a common problem for most of us.

Various reasons like aging, genetics, lack of sleep, hormonal changes, sinusitis, poor diet, excessive crying, stress, environmental changes, allergic reactions, etc. will make the natural fats and fluids to migrate down to our lower lids and thereby causes puffy and swollen eyes.

Puffy eyes make the people look ill and tired and mild swelling, saggy or loose skin, dark circles, etc. are some symptoms for puffy eyes.

Don’t worry, the puffy eyes can be easily treated at home with some simple natural remedies without spending money on expensive cosmetic products.

Home Remedies for Puffy Eyes:

Remedy – 1: (Cold Compress)

The cold compress helps to constrict the blood vessels and thereby makes proper fluid circulation and lessens the swelling. But remember that not to apply extreme cold to the skin around the eyes.

Here are some ways of placing cold compress for treating puffy eyes.

  • Placing a cold spoon will tighten the skin around the eyes. Refrigerate few metal spoons for 10 – 15 minutes. Hold the back side of the cold spoons against the eye for few minutes. Replace the old one with cold one whenever the spoon becomes warm. Repeat it twice daily till puffy eyes are cleared.
  • Rinsing your face (eyes) will relieve you from tiredness, pain, and swelling. Rinse your face with several splashes of cold water. Continue doing the same process for few times daily.
  • Fill few ice cubes in a small bag and wrap it with a washcloth. Then place it on your eyes for few seconds and continue the same process till you get complete relief from the problem.
  • You can go the cold compress by using a bag of frozen peas or vegetables to get rid of puffy eyes.
  • Milk soothes and cools the skin and reduces the water retention, which causes puffiness. Dip cotton balls in chilled milk and dab it over the eyes. Remove the ball after 20 – 30 minutes and rinse off with water. Repeat it once or twice daily till you get relief from puffy eyes.

Remedy – 2: (Tea Bags)

Tannins in tea have mild diuretic nature that clears water retention causing puffy eyes. It has an astringent property that helps to tighten the skin, relieves redness, swelling and gives relief from puffy eyes.

  • Place 2 used tea bags in the refrigerator for about 25 – 30 minutes.
  • Lie down in a comfortable place and put this chilled tea bags over your closed eyelids.
  • Cover the tea bags with a soft cloth and wait for 10 – 15 minutes.
  • Then remove the tea bags and continue the same process for few times daily.

Remedy – 3: (Cucumber)

Cucumber has natural astringent property along with enzymes that help to reduce the inflammation and tightens the skin to reduce puffy eyes and dark circles.

  • Cut a chilled cucumber into thick slices (or) refrigerate the cucumber slices for 10 minutes.
  • Place these cold cucumber slices on the eyelids for 10 minutes.
  • Remove it once the slices become warm and continue the same for several times daily.

Remedy – 4: (Potato)

Potato treats puffy eyes with its catecholase enzyme that helps to reduce the water retention causing puffy eyes. It tightens the puffiness and swelling with its astringent and anti-inflammatory properties.

  • Cut a cool potato into thick slices and place in over closed eyes.
  • Wait for few minutes and remove the slices when it becomes warm.
  • Do the same process twice daily (once at night before bedtime) till you get relief from the problem.

Note: Or simply grate a potato and pour it in a clean cloth. Tie up the cloth and place the cloth over eyelids for few minutes and continue the process till you get rid of the problem.

Remedy – 5: (Egg White)

Egg white has skin tightening properties that retain the fluid causing puffy eyes. It also relieves you from dark circles and wrinkles.

  • Separate the egg white from 2 eggs and whip it till you get a stiff consistency.
  • Then add few drops of witch hazel (a natural astringent) and apply it under the eyes using a brush or soft cloth.
  • Let it dry for 10 – 15 minutes and rinse off with water.
  • Do the same process once daily for few days till you cleared the problem.

Remedy – 6: (Salt)

Salt water helps for fluid retention, similarly as osmosis to reduce swelling and puffiness under your eyes.

  • Mix 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a bowl filled with 4 cups of warm water.
  • Stir well and soak cotton balls or eye pads in this water and squeeze to remove excess water.
  • Place it on the puffy eyes for few minutes and repeat it regularly till you get relief from the problem.

Note:

  • Or simply use a neti pot to get rid of nasal irrigation and upper respiratory problems which in turn results in puffiness under the eyes.
  • Avoid excess intake of salt which results in the formation of fluids in the body and thereby results in puffy eyes.

Tips and Precautions:

  1. Drink plenty of water along with fresh fruit and vegetables to keep your body stay hydrated and prevent water retention by flushing out the toxins from the body.
  2. Reduce the intake of salt along with caffeinated and carbonated beverages, as they cause dehydration and further results in puffy eyes.
  3. Sleep at regular intervals of time for at least 7 – 8 hours. Keep your head elevated while sleeping and also sleep on your back side rather than on your side or stomach. So, daily have some tight sleep in a right way to treat puffy eyes.
  4. Massage all around the eyes gently for few minutes using your hands to displace the trapped fluid and make them go away from your eye area. Do it every morning for best results.
  5. Applying aloe vera gel or strawberries slices (or paste) under the eyes will help to reduce pain, irritation, and swelling caused due to puffy eyes.
  6. Relax yourself for a couple of minutes after working in front of computers or electronic screens.

DIY Homemade Natural Facial Toner

Toner is a basic beauty skin care regimen that helps to restore the skin’s natural pH levels, absorbs excess oil, shrinks pores, protects your skin from makeup and removes dirt and dead cells to make the skin clean and clear.

It tightens and soothes the skin to make it soft and problem free. There are many cosmetic toners in the beauty world but they might contain chemicals that cause excess dryness and breakouts. This is the main thing that makes us to choose the natural homemade toner, which is safe, cost effective and gives long lasting results.

Isn’t it a good idea to prepare a homemade toner and use it daily to get rid of many skin problems? So, today we’re going to know how to prepare a natural homemade facial toner using simple ingredients.

Toner – 1: (Apple Cider Vinegar)

Apple cider vinegar is loaded with powerful enzymes, beneficial acids and nutrients that are essential for skin care. It has antimicrobial, antioxidant and antiseptic properties that deal with skin infections and makes it problem free.

It balances the natural pH of the skin, exfoliates gently to remove excess oil and dead cells and lightens scars.

  • Add 1 part of organic apple cider vinegar in 2 parts of distilled water.
  • Stir well and pour into a bottle with a tight lid.
  • Apply it as your toner on the clean skin using a cotton pad or ball.
  • Store it in a cool and dry place.
  • Use it regularly after giving it a shake to mix.

DIY Homemade Natural Facial Toner

Note: Or use any of these ingredients like essential oils (lavender oil), hydrosols, aloe vera, glycerin, rosehip oil, rosewater, orange oil, chopped fresh mint leaves, green tea or brewed herbal tea, etc. in the above mix and use it as a toner on your skin.

Toner – 2: (Witch Hazel with Vitamin C)

Witch hazel acts as a natural astringent agent that clears all impurities, dead cells and oil from the skin. It reduces redness, acne and skin irritation and it also locks your skin’s moisture.

Vitamin C (or ascorbic acid) has antioxidant and anti-aging properties that tighten your skin and maintain its natural pH along with providing much more skin benefits. Vitamin C breaks down over time, so make it as much as you need for a week at a time and refrigerate it.

  • Combine 1/2 teaspoon of natural vitamin C powder and 1/4 cup of witch hazel extract in a small bottle.
  • Shake it well and apply it daily on your clean face using a cotton pad.
  • Let it air dry and apply your cream or makeup.

Note:

  • Or add 8 drops of lavender essential oil to the above mix.
  • Alternatively, mix 1/4 teaspoon of vitamin C powder, several drops of vitamin E oil and 5 drops of essential oil in 1/2 oz of hydrosol in a dark glass bottle with a fine mister. Shake it well and use it as a toner every day.
  • Also, if you have dry or sensitive skin, then replace witch hazel with food grade glycerin. Or use alcohol-free witch hazel.
  • Or mix 2 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol, 1/3 cup of witch hazel and 1/4 cup of lemon juice in 1/2 cup of water in a spray bottle. Shake it well and apply it on the clean face.
  • Also, mix 1 part of witch hazel and few drops of lavender oil in 4 parts of rose water. Store it in a spray bottle and use it as a toner to minimize skin pores and tightens your skin.

Toner – 3: (Vegetable Glycerin with Tea Tree Oil)

Vegetable glycerin (or glycerin) has strong humectant properties that lock the moisture in your skin. It can be easily soluble in any liquid and also draws oxygen into the skin.

Tea tree oil has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that provide you with the best skin care.

  • Mix 15 drops of tea tree oil and 2 teaspoons of vegetable glycerin in 1/2 cup of filtered water.
  • Stir well and pour it in a bottle which has a tight lid.
  • Use it as your facial toner on daily basis.

Note:

  • Or mix 2 tablespoons each of vegetable glycerin and alcohol-free witch hazel in 6 ounces of freshly brewed green tea (or mint tea). Use it as your facial toner.
  • Or mix 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice and 2 teaspoons of glycerin in 6 oz of chamomile tea. Stir well and use it as a toner.
  • Also, mix 1 tablespoon of glycerin along with few drops of facial oil in 1 cup of rose water. Store it in a spray bottle and use it as a toner.

Tips and Precautions:

  1. Perform a skin patch test to know how your skin responds to that particular ingredient. Also, don’t afraid to experiment with the ratios to find out the best suit for your skin.
  2. Use rosewater or fresh lemon juice or aloe vera gel or rosewater with kombucha or a combination of essential oils with a carrier oil or neem leaves boiled in rose water as an effective natural facial toner.
  3. Other than applying toner, rinse your wash thoroughly for twice daily (once in the morning and once at night before bedtime).
  4. Toner is an essential for the people who have oily or acne prone skin. So, that it clears excess oil and impurities that result in breakouts.
  5. Always remember to shake the toner bottle before using to mix the content well in the bottle.

Method – 4: (Apple Cider Vinegar with Herbs)

Apple cider vinegar is a natural conditioner and has cleansing property that gives instant relief from the dry and itchy scalp. Herbs used in this process is used to soothe the irritated and infected scalp.

Steps to be followed…

  • Boil 2 cups of raw apple cider vinegar in a pan for few minutes.

  • Then strain out the herbs and pour this mix in a bottle.

However, few moles will fade away along with the age but few stays like ugly spots on the skin. Choosing surgical ways or cosmetic creams might result in side effects and scars. So, the usage of natural remedies will help you a lot in clearing the moles.

Home Remedies for Mole Removal:

Make sure to check whether the mole is normal one without having any abnormalities and then use these natural remedies for removing your moles on the skin.

1. Garlic:

Garlic has certain enzymes that break down the cell clusters which causes moles. This in turn, makes the cells spread out normally in the skin and when once the cells loosen up their bond then they lighten up the pigmentation to prevent moles.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar:

Apple cider vinegar has malic acid, acetic acid, tartaric acid, enzymes, and other acids that help to dissolve the moles and remove it completely from the skin. Make sure to use organic, raw, unfiltered and unpasteurized apple cider vinegar which has the mother in it.

Steps to be followed…

  • Spread a thin layer of petroleum jelly around the moles to protect the healthy skin from the acidic effect of vinegar.
  • Dip a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and wring it to remove the excess vinegar.
  • Dab the ball on the mole area in such a way that vinegar touches your mole.
  • Then secure it with a bandage and let it sit for a couple of hours.
  • Remove the cotton and continue doing the same process for thrice a day to get dried up your mole and fall off on its own.

Note:

  • Or use a juice of sour apples instead of apple cider vinegar to reduce the acidic effect on the skin.
  • Or simply dilute a little of water in apple cider vinegar before applying on the dry and sensitive skin to prevent burning effect on the skin.
  • Alternatively, use water and emery board to gently rub the mole and then apple vinegar on the mole till it turns white. Leave on for few minutes and rinse off. Finally, apply coconut oil to prevent scarring.

3. Castor Oil and Baking Soda:

Castor oil acts as a discutient (that causes dispersal or disappearance of a pathological accumulation) which helps to remove moles by dissolving or eliminating the unusual skin growths. Baking soda releases free hydrogen ions that react with the skin tissues of the moles and dehydrate it.

This combination is a sure shot remedy for mole removal but takes a little more time. It also won’t leave any scars on the skin.

Steps to be followed…

  • Mix few drops of castor oil in 1 teaspoon of baking soda to make a fine thick paste.
  • Apply it on the moles and secure it with an adhesive tape.
  • Let it sit for overnight and remove it in the morning.
  • Rinse off with water and pat dry the area.
  • Do the same process daily for few days until the moles are cleared completely from the skin.

4. Onion Juice:

  • Extract fresh onion juice by placing onions in a blender.

5. Flaxseed Oil:

Other essential nutrients in flaxseed possess excellent skin healing properties. So, regular usage of flaxseed will loosen up the moles in few days and makes it fall on its own within few days.

Steps to be followed…

  • Add 1 tablespoon of flaxseed powder and 1 teaspoon of raw honey in a bowl.
  • Stir well by adding enough of flax oil to make a fine paste.
  • Apply it on the moles and rinse off after it gets dried.

6. Iodine:

  • Wash the dandelion root thoroughly and cut one end of the root.
  • Then squeeze out the root to collect the sap, which is coming out of the root.
  • Apply this sap on the moles and leave it.
  • Continue doing the same process for 2 – 3 times a day until you get rid of the moles thoroughly.

8. Pineapple Juice:

Pineapple juice contains citric acid and enzymes that help to lighten the pigmentation (which causes moles) and makes it less visible. Always, use fresh pineapple juice instead of canned juice which doesn’t have rich content of citric acid for treating moles.

Steps to be followed…

  • Dip a cotton ball in pineapple juice and dab the ball over your mole.
  • Secure it with an adhesive bandage or tape.
  • Let it sit for few hours to overnight and remove the tape.
  • Continue doing it for 2 – 3 times a day on daily basis.

Note:

  • Or cut a piece of pineapple just a shape of mole and place it on the mole and secure with an adhesive bandage. Replace the pineapple piece after few hours and repeat it regularly till you clear moles.
  • Alternatively, use a scrub prepared by mixing 1/2 cup of pineapple juice in 1/4 cup of coarse sea salt. Scrub the mole to remove the top layers of the skin for fast relief from moles.

9. Grapefruit Seed Extract:

Grapefruit has rich content of many vitamins, minerals, flavonoids and citric acids along with salts that contribute a lot in eliminating moles on the skin.

Steps to be followed…

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of grapefruit seed extract in 10 tablespoons of avocado oil.
