Fingers will play a crucial role in doing any of our daily activities. So, even a slight pain or swelling will result in a lot of discomforts and troublesome.

A swollen finger is an extremely uncomfortable situation that makes us difficult to bend or touch the affected fingers. It occurs due to fluid buildup (edema caused by medications or pregnancy) or inflammation on that particular area.

Some common causes include insect bite, injury (jammed or sprained finger), rash, infection, edema, high intake of salt, obesity, exposure to extreme temperature, hormonal changes, etc.

In some cases, it also occurs as a result of any underlying health problems like cellulitis, bursitis, nail fungus, arthritis (osteoarthritis, septic or rheumatoid arthritis), CTS, ganglion cyst, etc.

Redness, pain, swelling, lumps along the fingers, stiffness, fatigue, bruising, swollen joints, tingling sensation or numbness around the affected area or reduced motion are some symptoms of swollen fingers.

If you’re suffering from the swelling with severe pain, fever or a weak grip then immediately consult your doctor for proper diagnose and treatment, as it can be due to any other health problem.

Remedy – 1: (Hydrotherapy)

We generally use a warm or cold compress to treat any pain or swelling but here we are using both i.e., using a contrast hydrotherapy for treating swollen fingers. This will helps to improve blood circulation and reduce the swelling or inflammation.

  • Take 2 bowls – one with cold water and other with warm water.
  • Soak the affected fingers in warm water for about 3 – 4 minutes.
  • Then take out your finger and place it in cold water for 1 – 2 minutes.
  • Continue this hydrotherapy for few times till it covers about 15 – 20 minutes.
  • Do the same process for 3 – 4 times daily until you get complete relief from the problem.

Remedy – 2: (Exercises)

Exercise will be beneficial for treating swollen fingers that are caused due to poor blood circulation, fluid retention, stress or strain. Regular exercises like flexing the fingers will reduce the buildup of fluids and also reduces the strain on your muscles.

  • First, close your fingers into a fist and hold this position for a minute.
  • Then slowly open your hand fist and stretch out the fingers.
  • Do the same cycle for few times.
  • Repeat this exercise for several times daily.

Note: Or go with hand squeezes with a stress ball to get rid of swollen fingers.

Remedy – 3: (Warm Oil Massage)

Warm oil massage will relax the sore muscles, improves blood circulation and drains out the excess fluid to get rid of swelling and stiffness.

  • Slightly warm some olive oil or mustard oil or castor oil.
  • Apply it on the affected fingers and massage the fingers gently for 5 minutes by using other hand fingers.
  • Make sure that you start the gentle massage at the tip of the affected finger and move it towards the heart.
  • Continue this massage (gently not vigorously) for few times daily.

Note: Or warm 20 ml of mustard oil and add 2 – 3 crushed garlic cloves in it. When the cloves turn brown then mix 1/4 teaspoon each of ginger powder, turmeric and carom seed powder to it.  Rub this warm oil mix on the affected fingers to get rid of the infection and pain.

Remedy – 4: (Epsom Salt)

Magnesium sulfate in Epsom salt will make it as the best remedy for treating swollen fingers. It relaxes your muscles and relieves your pain and stiffness.

  • Stir 1 – 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt in a large bowl of hot water.
  • Soak the affected fingers in this water for 10 – 15 minutes.
  • Follow the same process for once or twice daily till you get complete relief from the swelling in your fingers.

Note: Or soak a clean cloth in this water and wring it remove excess water. Place it over the swollen fingers for few minutes.

Remedy – 5: (Turmeric)

Curcumin in turmeric has antioxidant, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that treat certain problems like swollen fingers, muscle sprains, arthritis and other injuries along with the pain.

  • Add 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder in enough olive oil and mix it to make a paste.
  • Spread this paste all over the affected fingers.
  • Leave it on for few minutes to get dry and wash your fingers with lukewarm water.
  • Do the same for twice daily till you get rid of the swelling and pain.

Note: Also, consult your doctor to get suggestions on taking curcumin supplements.

Remedy – 6: (Black Tea Bags)

Black tea bags are enriched with antioxidants and tannins that prevent the fluid retention and swelling.  Tea bags tighten your skin by shrinking the blood vessels.

  • Prepare a black tea using a black tea bag as normally.
  • Take out the tea bag and squeeze it to remove excess water.
  • Refrigerate it for 15 minutes and place the cold tea bag over the swollen fingers.
  • Hold the tea bag for about 10 – 15 minutes.
  • Continue the same process for 2 – 4 times daily for getting a quick relief.

Tips and Precautions:

  1. Elevating your hands or fingers above the chest level will help for proper blood circulation and clears pain and swelling. So, place few pillows under your hands while sitting or sleeping.
  2. Compressing the hand and wrist will clear the fluid retention and improves blood circulation to prevent swollen fingers. Wrap an elastic bandage or ace wrap around the wrist and palm using an even pressure during day time and remove it at night before bedtime.
  3. Potassium and acidic nature of apple cider vinegar treat swollen fingers. Soak a cloth in a mixture prepared by mixing equal parts of warm water and ACV. Wrap the cloth all over the affected finger for 10 minutes (or) drink vinegar and honey mixed in 1 glass of warm water.
  4. High intake of sodium (or salt) will allow the body to retain excess fluid and then edema. So, try to eat less salt (of about 1 teaspoon daily in any form) and use herbs or seasonings instead of salt to reduce swelling.
  5. It’s best to maintain a moderate temperature in your office or home for proper circulation.
  6. Avoid exposure of the affected fingers to either cold or hot temperatures, as they worsen the swelling.
  7. Give plenty of rest to the swollen fingers and avoid playing games or lifting weights with that hand.
  8. Include anti-inflammatory rich foods like garlic, cayenne pepper, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and also include omega – 3 fatty acids rich foods in your diet.

Though there is no complete cure for asthma, we can control its symptoms to reduce its frequency of attacks. There are many over the counter medications available for treating asthma. You can use some simple natural remedies as an adjunct treatment to provide relief from its symptoms.

  • Soak 2 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in enough water for overnight.

  • Then mix fresh ginger juice, fenugreek a decoction and raw honey in a bowl.
  • Stir well and drink it twice daily (once in the morning and once in evening) till you cleared the blocked airways.

  • Grind 3 walnuts and 3 slices of fresh ginger slices to make a paste.

Note: Or simply consume the walnut – ginger paste at night before bedtime on daily basis.

Method – 5: (Ginger with Lemongrass)

Lemongrass helps in curing respiratory conditions, including bronchial asthma. Cinnamon has many medicinal properties that clear chest congestion and relieves you from a cough, difficulty in breathing and sinus irritation.

Garlic helps for treating many respiratory disorders. So, this combination process is a perfect choice for treating asthma.

  • Add 2 teaspoons of dried lemongrass, 2 garlic cloves, 1/2 – 1 teaspoon of grated ginger and 1 small cinnamon stick in a saucepan filled with 2 cups of water.
  • Boil it for 7 – 10 minutes and turn off the heat.
  • Let it steep for another 5 minutes and strain the mix using a strainer.
  • Then add 1 teaspoon of raw honey and 1/2 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice to this tea.
  • Stir well and drink this tea once daily (or) 3 – 4 times weekly for best relief.

Note: Or boil 4 cups of water and add 1 stalk of sliced lemongrass and 1/4 cup of grated fresh ginger. Simmer for 10 minutes and turn off the heat. Add 2 teaspoons of herbal tea and strain it. Drink it by adding honey or lemon juice.

Tips and Precautions:

  1. Rinse off the ginger root before using to clear the mud and other impurities on it.
  2. Avoid excess intake of ginger in any form, as it results in some side effects like belching, acidity, heartburn, insomnia and nausea.
  3. Pregnant or nursing women and children should consult the doctor before using ginger and also, avoid taking ginger if you’re taking beta – blockers, blood thinners or immune suppressants.
  4. Make sure to consult your doctor before taking any ginger supplements for proper dosage as per your health condition.

  5. Intake of any natural oil will soothe your irritated throat by coating with its healing properties. Consume 1 teaspoon of natural oil or sunflower oil slowly but avoid drinking water immediately after drinking.

How to Get Rid of Boils on Inner Thighs

Boils (or skin abscess or Furuncles) is a bacterial infection that appears as round, red, pus filled, hard and painful lumps on the skin. It is caused due to the release of toxins in the body (or) entering the staphylococcal bacteria into a hair follicle (through cuts or scratches) or a sweat gland, particularly on the area where it is exposed to friction.

Thighs are the most common skin area for the boils to occur. Weak immune system, harsh chemicals, unhealthy diet, diabetes, infected sweat glands, poor hygiene, chronic diseases, etc. will make the people more prone to develop boils.

Intake of antibiotics is not suggested for healthy living, so use natural ingredients which have antibiotic properties to heal the boils on your inner thighs.

Natural Home Remedies for Boils:

Boils can be healed on their own within a week to 10 days but to speed up the healing process and to relieve you from the pain, try these natural home remedies regularly.

Remedy – 1: (Tea Tree Oil)

Tea tree oil has terpinen – 4 – ol that exhibits antimicrobial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that kill the bacteria, relieves you from itching and reduces your pain to get rid of boils.

  • Dilute few drops of tea tree oil and lavender oil in a bowl of warm water.
  • Then soak a clean washcloth in this water and squeeze it to remove excess water.
  • Place this warm compress on the boils affected skin areas and wait for 10 – 15 minutes till the cloth cools down.
  • Repeat the same process for 3 – 5 times daily till you cleared the boils.

Tea Tree Oil for Boils on Inner Thighs

Note:

  • Or mix few drops of tea tree oil in 1 tablespoon of carrier oil (coconut oil or almond oil or olive oil). Apply this mix on boils using a cotton ball. Rinse off with water after few minutes.
  • Also, soak a cotton swab in tea tree oil and place it directly on the boils. If you’ve stinging sensation, then dilute tea tree oil with few drops of water and then apply it on the boils.

Remedy – 2: (Onions)

Onions have antiseptic, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that heal your boils. It acts as an irritant and absorbent that draws out the heat from your boil and thus promotes eruption.

  • Cut a fresh red onion into thick slices and place them on the boil.
  • Cover it with a cloth like a poultice and replace the onion slices for every 2 – 3 hours.
  • Continue doing the same regularly till the boil erupts and drains.

Note:

  • Or mix 1/4 teaspoon of honey in 1 teaspoon of fresh onion juice and apply it on the boil affected areas. Rinse off with lukewarm water after few minutes. Repeat it regularly.
  • Or simply apply freshly prepared onion juice or paste or any other onion extract on the boils to get relief from the problem.

Remedy – 3: (Turmeric)

Turmeric has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that fight against the bacteria and relieves you from the pain. It has blood purifying and detoxifying nature that clears itching and boost up your immunity.

  • Mix 1 – 2 teaspoons of turmeric powder with enough water to make a thick paste.
  • Apply it on the boil infected inner thighs and let it sit for 20 – 30 minutes.
  • Then after, rinse off with water and dry the area.
  • Regular follow – up of this process will bring the boil to a head and burst it quickly for a faster relief.

Note:

  • Or mix turmeric powder with vinegar and milk cream (or garlic juice with turmeric) to make a paste. Apply it on the boils and rinse off after 10 – 15 minutes to get relief from the pain.
  • Also, drink turmeric milk prepared by mixing 1/2 – 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder in 1 glass of milk. Drink it twice daily to get rid of pain and discomfort caused by the boils.

Remedy – 4: (Neem)

Neem or Indian lilac has antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that give relief from boils on the inner thighs.

  • Grind a handful of neem leaves with some turmeric powder and water to make a paste.
  • Spread this paste on the boils affected area and let it sit for about 30 – 45 minutes.
  • Rinse off with water and dry the area thoroughly.
  • Do the same process for few times daily till you get relief from the boils on the inner thighs.

Note: Or boil few fresh neem leaves in a pan of water for few minutes till the water remains half of its original quantity. Allow the mix to cool and strain it. Use this neem water to rinse your affected area.

Remedy – 5: (Apple Cider Vinegar)

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) has many essential acids, nutrients, and enzymes that break down the boil’s layer and penetrate deep into the skin to clear the problem from the root. It has antimicrobial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that help you to get relief from itching, pain and thereby infection.

  • Pour some water in 2 tablespoons of organic ACV and stir well.
  • Dip a cotton ball in this mix and dab it on the boils.
  • Leave it on for few minutes and repeat the process few times daily till the boil opens up and drains.

Note:

  • Or mix equal parts of raw honey and organic ACV. Apply it on the boil affected area and rinse off with lukewarm water after 15 – 20 minutes. Repeat it for twice daily.
  • Also, mix 1 tablespoon of ACV and 1 teaspoon of honey in 1 glass of lukewarm water. Stir well and drink it to get relief from inside the body.

Tips and Precautions:

  1. If you’re symptoms persists or having a fever with pain even after 10 days, then consult your doctor for proper diagnose and treatment.
  2. Placing a warm compress on the boils affected inner thighs will increase the blood circulation and clears infection quickly. Place a cloth squeezed from warm water over your boil for several times till the boil erupts and pus drains out.
  3. Epsom salt is highly absorbent and drying agent that draws out the impurities and toxins from the skin to heal boils. Soak in the bathwater dissolved with 1 cup of Epsom salt (OR) soak a cloth in a mix (1/4 cup of Epsom salt in 2 cups of warm water). Squeeze it and place it on the boil for 10 – 15 minutes.

Natural Remedies to Get Rid of Foot Pain

In general, we spend up to 80% of our life on the feet to do our activities and give 20% rest to them. From this, we came to know how much stress and pressure, our legs and feet are facing. So, it’s no wonder that 3 out of 5 people suffering from the foot pain.

Foot pain (sore feet or aching feet) can be an excruciating pain on the feet that was caused due to excessive walking, nutritional deficiencies, standing for a long time, especially on hard surfaces, overworked lower limbs, wearing uncomfortable shoes, aging, some fractures, diabetes, ingrown toenails, plantar fasciitis, arthritis, sprains or spurs, etc.

Foot pain can occur anywhere in the foot that includes toes, sole, heel, ankle or arch. Are you one among those who are suffering from foot pain? Then stop bearing your pain silently and start using natural home remedies to soothe your foot pain.

Home Remedies for Foot Pain:

  • Take 2 buckets and fill one with bearable hot water and another with cold water.

  • Take a handful of sage leaves and rub it gently with your hands.
  • Place it in a pot filled with 1 cup of organic apple cider vinegar.
  • Boil the mix for few minutes and reduce the heat.
  • Simmer for 5 minutes and then soak a clean cloth in this warm mix.

Sage Remedies for Foot Pain

Method – 3: (Vinegar)

Vinegar helps to heal the aching feet that caused due to sprains or strains with its anti-inflammatory property.

  • Fill the foot basin with hot water and add 2 tablespoons of vinegar and some sea salt (or Epsom salt or table salt) in it.
  • Stir well and soak your aching feet in this water for about 20 – 30 minutes.

Note: Or mix equal parts of vinegar and water (cold and hot) in 2 containers, hot water in one and cold water in another. Soak a towel in the hot water mix and squeeze it. Wrap it around your foot and wait for 5 minutes. Do the same with cold water mix. Repeat this for 3 – 4 times daily.

Method – 4: (Clove Oil)

  • Mix 3 – 5 drops of clove oil in 1 teaspoon of coconut oil (or sesame oil or olive oil).

Note: Or simply massage the aching feet with clove oil for few minutes to stimulate blood circulation and heal the pain.

  • Grind 1/2 cup of mustard seeds to make a paste.
  • Mix it in 1/2 bucket of warm water and soak your feet in this water for about 10 – 15 minutes.
  • Pat dry the feet and continue the soaking process for 2 – 3 times daily.

Method – 6: (Cayenne Pepper)

Capsaicin in cayenne pepper helps to relieve your muscle strain, muscle aches, and pains, lower back pain, cold feet, arthritis and foot pain.

  • Mix 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper into 1/2 bucket of hot water.
  • Stir well and soak your feet in this water for few minutes.
  • Regular follow – up of this process will give you a soothing effect and relieves your foot pain.

Note: Or simply sprinkle some cayenne pepper in the socks before wearing it to keep the feet warm and heal your pain.

Tips and Precautions:

  1. Magnesium in Epsom salt will relax your feet and ease the pain. Mix 2 – 3 tablespoons of Epsom salt in 1 tub of warm water and soak your feet for 10 – 15 minutes. Apply moisturizer after soaking your feet in this salt water.
  2. Cold compress (or ice therapy) will numb the nerve endings in the painful area and thus reduce your swelling. Place few ice cubes in a cloth and use it to massage the affected area in a circular motion to get rid of the problem.
  3. Asparagus acts as a natural diuretic that flushes out the excess fluid out from the system and thereby reduces foot pain or edema. Steam some asparagus and consume it regularly. Also, consume foods that are rich in diuretic and potassium.
  4. Essential oils will also help to soothe your sore, tired and aching feet. Simply mix 4 drops each of rosemary oil and eucalyptus oil and 2 drops of peppermint oil in hot water and soak your feet for 10 minutes (or) massage the aching feet with a mix of essential oils in a carrier oil for few minutes.
  5. Consult your doctor if you didn’t get any relief from the pain after using these remedies for 2 – 3 days (or) if the pain is unbearable, for proper diagnose and treatment accordingly.
  6. Trim your toenails, as ingrown toenails will make your problem worse and also file the corners of the nail to remove sharp edges of the skin.
  7. Also, wear comfortable shoes which fit your feet properly, as a good fitting pair of shoes will not cause any foot pain or problem.
  8. Regular massage of your feet (including soles) with some natural oils like warm coconut oil or olive oil or almond oil for few minutes before going to sleep will help to relax your feet and relieves it from tiredness.
  9. Never ever stand too long (especially on hard or rough surfaces). Take frequent breaks to sit down and elevate the feet for few minutes.
