Scabs are a hard coating that formed as a natural process to protect the skin from bleeding injuries. It is an indication that the skin was healing the injuries or sores. Nasal scab is generally the mucus hat dried up or the sores inside the nasal cavity.

This nasal scab (organic bandage) can be a simple infection or a symptom of any nasal infection or a blood that dried up after bleeding inside the nose or in rare cases it might be a sign of cancer.  So, consult your doctor if you’re suffering from these nasal scabs for proper diagnose and treatment.

There are many factors such as weather changes, having sores in the nostrils, picking nose, nasal bleeding, operative procedures, nasal dryness, allergies (hay fever), nasal herpes, rhinitis, sinusitis, cold sores, certain medications, drug addictions, staph A infections, sunburn, etc. will cause these nasal scabs.

There are many natural remedies that help you in dealing these nasal scabs along with its symptoms like itching or painful irritation.

Home Remedies for Nasal Scabs:

Here are some best home remedies that help you to get relief from the scabs in the nose. Follow them regularly till you get rid of the problem.

1. Warm Compress:

A warm compress will give relief from the discomfort caused by scabs in the nose. Simply soak a soft towel in hot water and squeeze it to remove excess water. Dab the cloth on the affected areas of the nose as a compress. Press it gently and let it sit for few minutes. After the cloth gets cooled, remove it and repeat the same regularly till you get rid of the problem.

2. Saline Solution:

The saline solution will clear away the mucus and other impurities causing sinusitis and nasal scabs. Add 1 teaspoon of salt in 1/2 cup of water. Stir well and pour this mix in a neti pot. Tilt your head and open your mouth and use this pot to rinse your nasal passage by pouring this water in one nostril and it comes out from another nostril. You can also use saline sprays which help to constrict the blood vessels carrying blood to the nasal area.

Note: You should not try these saline solutions if you’re suffering from cold sores.

3. Baking Soda:

Baking soda exhibits antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that help you to clear any infections causing scabs and its pain. Mix some baking soda with a little water to make a fine paste. Apply this paste on the scabs. Wait for few minutes to dry and wash the area with water. Do the application regularly until you get complete relief from scabs in nose.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar:

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) encourages the cell growth and also helps to maintain proper pH balance of the skin. Mix 1 – 2 teaspoons of organic ACV in a bowl of water and stir well. Then dip a cotton ball in this ACV water and dab it on the scabs. Wait for 20 – 25 minutes and rinse this ACV water applied areas with water. Or you can also use tea tree oil instead of ACV.

5. Garlic:

The antimicrobial and antiseptic properties of garlic will help to heal these nasal scabs in most cases. All you need is to boil few cloves of crushed garlic in water for few minutes and apply this water on the affected skin areas when once it gets cooled (or) simply rinse this affected area with this water.

6. Cold Compress:

If you’re suffering from nasal scabs that accompanied with itching, sharp pains and swelling then ice/cold compress will be your best remedy. For this, you have to soak a clean cloth in cold water or ice cubes for 3 minutes. Squeeze out the cloth and place it on the affected area.

Or you can tie a handkerchief with some ice cubes and apply it on the swollen nose. This cold compress will calm down the affected area, reduces the pain and speed up the healing process.

7. Honey:

Honey has wound healing and antiseptic property which helps to heal the scabs in nose faster. Apply a small amount of raw honey on the scabs and let it sit for few minutes till you get relief from scabs.

8. Epsom salt:

Epsom salt has a calming property that prevents the pain and tenderness which are associated with scabs. Soak your nasal scabs in water for a couple of minutes and then add some Epsom salt in this water. Stir well and soak the scab affected nose areas in this water. This soaking will tighten the scab and relieves your scabs.

9. Vitamins:

You have to include some essential vitamins like A, C & D in your diet while suffering from scabs. Vitamins A & D are helpful in fighting against the bacterial infection and helps you in treating the soreness caused by these scabs inside the nose. Also, you can simply apply any topical ointments which have this A & D by dabbing it on the scab using a q-tip.

Vitamin C is enriched with antioxidants (that improve the immune system) and anti-inflammatory (eliminates the pain and swelling). So, include vitamin C in your diet like citrus fruits to clear this problem.

Tips and Precautions:

  1. Stop picking your nose, as it is the main reason for nasal scabs and thereby solve this problem. This picking will slow down the healing process along with transfer the germs to the nose and forms bloody or painful scabs in the nose.
  2. Use antibiotic soaps to rinse the areas around the nostrils and mouth will help you to prevent the scabs from spreading. Also, wash your hands before and after applying any topical medicines or eating food to prevent the transfer of harmful bacteria worsening the problem.
  3. Smoke will also cause inflammation in the mucous membrane and thereby causes scabs in the nose. Also, remember that smoke will create a breeding ground for bacteria to thrive in the body. So, avoid smoking to get rid of scabs.
  4. Blowing your nose a lot in repeated times may lead to bleeding or inflammation on the nasal cavity and thereby causes more pain on the scabs. So, don’t blow your nose frequently.
  5. Run a humidifier to add moisture to the air and thereby to prevent dry nose and sinusitis problems. It is the best idea to use a humidifier to prevent these scabs inside the nasal cavity.
  6. Apply a natural moisturizer (or Vaseline petroleum jelly) to moisturize the area and to keep it hygienic. This will help to treat scabs which are occurred on the nostril tips or its surrounding areas.
  7. Stay away from allergic substances like pollen, fur, molds, etc. as they result in these nasal scabs along with causing allergic reactions in the body.
  8. Use natural antibiotics along with doctor prescribed antibiotic ointments like Neosporin or bacitracin to strengthen your immunity, prevent bacterial infections and to get relief from nasal scabs. Also, use Ponaris oil as a home treatment for this problem.
  9. Most doctors perform nasal cauterization to boost up the fresh cell growth and to keep these scabs away. But remember that this method is done as a sort of last resort when no previous remedy is useful in preventing the recurrence of scabs.
  10. It’s best to treat cold sores and blisters on the body quickly to prevent the spread of the virus to other parts of the body (especially nose area).
  11. Drink plenty of water and other healthy fluids to prevent drying of nose lining and thereby to treat scabs in the nose.

What is Acid Reflux?

Acid reflux (or heartburn) is generally caused due to the backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus and leads to indigestion. In certain times it is caused by not having enough acids or an overload of H. pylori (Helicobacter pylori) bacteria in the stomach.

So, it is the side effect of the stomach that digests the food due to its low levels of the acid then the content spills upwards or towards the esophagus.

In general, our stomach has 2 sphincters with acid content – the top of the stomach known as lower esophageal sphincter (LES) and the bottom known as a pyloric valve. So, the stomach content will come up for digestion when there is less acid.

The acid will break down the proteins, activates the digestive enzymes, prevent the overgrowth of bacteria and has proper absorption of nutrients by the body.

All this process will result in indigestion, chest pain, burning sensation in the throat, nutritional deficiencies, acidic blood, etc. which further results in constipation, depression, fatigue, fractures, anxiety, dementia, anemia, fractures, osteoporosis and so on.

As we see most of the popular diets will make people lose their weight in a shorter run but after they end the diet, the people will gain their weight back or even gain some extra pounds. Even research stated that 2/3rd of dieters may regain more weight than they lost before.

It will be possible that people who go on diets will put on weight and thus makes them more apt to regain it. So, any diet that followed temporary will not give perfect results in the longer run, as no one will live only on the cabbage soup or grapefruit for the rest of their lives. The eating habits will cause the people to regain weight shortly after their weight loss goal is achieved.

There should be some long term and permanent lifestyle changes should be followed to lose weight rather than choosing a temporary diet. So, eat more healthy food, exercise daily and give up your bad habits.

Here are some tips that help you to lose weight and also to maintain proper weight for a longer run.

  • Choose dark chocolates instead of normal one, as the dark one contains at least 70% of cocoa solids.
  • Always check the foods that has not added any sugar or artificial sweeteners. Also avoid the intake of foods that are breaded or battered and deep fried.
  • Keep the junk food at bay from your cupboards or fridges to make yourself avoid eating it.
  • Switch to wholegrain bread products rather than the bread products that made from refined or white flour.
  • Avoid the intake of processed foods and try to make simple meals from fresh ingredients. Eliminate any liquid calories that prepared from the sugary drinks.
  • It’s best option to consume whenever you’re hungry and stop it when you feel full. For effective results, you should listen to the instructions of your body.
  • Give more space for non – starchy vegetables in your dinner plate for healthy digestion and to get rid of any digestive disorders. Also, while taking any food, you should pay some attention to check the calories, ingredients, and nutritional information on the labels.
  • Always try to spend more time in being physically active (by doing some regular exercises) rather than sitting longer times in front of screens.
