DIY Soothing Masks for Eczema

Eczema is an inflammatory skin problem that caused due to dry skin, weak immune system and other environmental irritants. Dryness, redness, itching, irritations, swelling and blisters are some of the symptoms of eczema.

There is no complete cure for eczema but you can get control over its symptoms. So, to soothe your eczema and calm down your angry and irritated skin, you have to use some soothing and calming mask on your face and body to get rid of that irritation.

There are many natural homemade masks that give relief from your irritated skin along with rejuvenating, pamper and moisturize the skin to get relief from eczema.

Homemade Natural Masks for Eczema:

Have a look on these natural DIY masks for eczema and follow them regularly to get relief from eczema.

Mask – 1: (Oatmeal with Honey and Yogurt)

Oatmeal has an excellent anti-inflammatory property that soothes your irritation and itching caused by eczema. It acts as a natural exfoliator that cleanses your skin to remove dead cells, excess oil, and other impurities.

Honey acts as a natural humectant and anti-inflammatory that retain moisture in the skin and fight against the bacteria causing eczema. Yogurt has lactic acid that soothes and lightens up your skin. This face mask will soothe the irritated skin and relieves you from dryness and itching.

  • Pour 1/3 cup of oatmeal and 1/2 cup of hot water in a bowl.
  • Stir well and leave it on for few minutes.
  • Then add 1 tablespoon of honey, 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt in that mix.
  • Stir well and apply it all over the skin where you’re suffering from eczema.
  • Let it sit for about 30 – 45 minutes and remove the mask using a damp soft cloth or tissue.
  • Wash off the applied skin area with lukewarm water.
  • Dry it properly to apply a moisturizer.
  • Repeat the same process for once daily till you get relief from the eczema itching, irritation, and redness.

Note:

  • Or use powdered oats mixed with honey and yogurt without water and apply it on your eczema affected areas.
  • Also, go for an oatmeal bath by mixing 1 cup of oatmeal in your bathtub filled with warm water. Soak for 10 – 15 minutes to get relief from eczema flare-ups.

Mask – 2: (Nutmeg with Honey and Vitamin E Oil)

Nutmeg has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that soothe the painful and irritated skin. Honey has antibacterial, skin soothing and disinfectant properties that relieve your skin from infection. Vitamin E oil gets easily absorbed into the epidermis and moisturizes your skin to get rid of eczema.

  • Add 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg powder and 1/2 teaspoon of vitamin E oil in 1 tablespoon of manuka honey.
    Stir well and spread this mix on all over the face by focusing more on your eczema affected skin areas.
  • Let it sit for 20 – 30 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water.
  • Dry your skin with a soft towel and continue applying this face mask regularly for 2 – 3 times a week till you get relief from eczema.

Note:

  • Or mix 1/4 cup each of oatmeal and hot water. Steep for 10 minutes and add 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of nutmeg powder and 1/2 teaspoon of vitamin E oil in it. Stir well and apply it on the face as a mask.
  • Or use 1 vitamin E capsule to extract its oil, if you don’t have vitamin E oil handy.

Mask – 3: (Turmeric with Honey)

This is a calming face mask that relieves you from itching and irritations. Turmeric acts as an anti-inflammatory and honey have antioxidant and skin soothing properties. So, this mask will reduce dryness, eliminate allergies and heals eczema.

  • Mix 1/2 – 1 teaspoon of organic turmeric powder with 1 tablespoon of honey (or Greek yogurt).
  • Stir well and apply it on your dry skin and massage gently on all over the face (except eye area).
  • Allow it to sit for 15 – 25 minutes and then rinse off with warm water.
  • Do the same process regularly to get relief from eczema symptoms.

Note:

  • Or mix 1 teaspoon of turmeric, few drops of honey and 2 tablespoons of ground oats in 3 tablespoons of milk to make a paste. Spread a thin layer of this mix on the face and rinse off with water after 20 minutes.
  • Or mix 1/2 teaspoon of manuka honey and some turmeric in 1tablespoon of Greek yogurt. Apply it as a face mask and rinse off after 10 – 15 minutes. Then wipe off using apple cider vinegar toner and apply moisturizer.

Mask – 4: (Avocado with Sweet Almond Oil and Oats)

Avocado is rich in vitamin E and healthy fatty acids which make it as a great moisturizer. Sweet almond oil moisturizes the skin without irritating, heals damaged skin, prevents the loss of moisture and restricts the entry of allergens or microbes into the damaged skin. Oats softens your skin.

  • Mix 1/2 cup of uncooked oats and 1 tablespoon each of avocado pulp and sweet almond oil in a blender.
  • Blend all these ingredients to make a fine paste.
  • Apply this paste on the face as a mask for treating your eczema.
  • Let it sit for 20 – 30 minutes and wipe off with a clean moist towel.
  • Rinse the face gently with lukewarm water and dry your face.
  • Regular follow – up of this mask will help you to get relief from eczema irritated skin.

Mask – 5: (Chickpea Flour with Turmeric, Milk and Apple Cider Vinegar)

Chickpea flour exfoliates the skin and milk soothe the skin, cider vinegar balances your skin’s pH levels and turmeric prevents the microbial infection. So, this mask is very effective in treating eczema and its symptoms.

  • Add 1 – 2 teaspoon of milk (or Greek yogurt), 1 teaspoon each of turmeric and chickpea flour, 2 – 3 teaspoon of honey, 1/2 teaspoon of organic cider vinegar, 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon and 2 – 3 drops of tea tree oil in a bowl.
  • Stir well and evenly spread this mix on your face.
  • Massage gently in circular motions and let it sit for few minutes till the mask dries completely on the face.
  • Rinse your face and pat dry your face with a soft towel.
  • Repeat the same process 3 – 4 times a week till you get relief from the problem.

Tips and Precautions:

  1. Always use the raw and organic ingredients for preparing the mask to get faster and best results of relieving from the problem.
  2. Always keep your skin well moisturized to prevent dry skin and thereby eczema. Regularly apply natural moisturizers like organic coconut oil after taking your bath to lock the moisture.
  3. For best results, remove your makeup and steam your face before applying any mask on the skin.
  4. Always use a plain variety of oats rather than any flavored or colored oats, which has artificial ingredients that may irritate your skin.

How to Get Rid of Boils on Inner Thighs

Boils (or skin abscess or Furuncles) is a bacterial infection that appears as round, red, pus filled, hard and painful lumps on the skin. It is caused due to the release of toxins in the body (or) entering the staphylococcal bacteria into a hair follicle (through cuts or scratches) or a sweat gland, particularly on the area where it is exposed to friction.

Thighs are the most common skin area for the boils to occur. Weak immune system, harsh chemicals, unhealthy diet, diabetes, infected sweat glands, poor hygiene, chronic diseases, etc. will make the people more prone to develop boils.

Intake of antibiotics is not suggested for healthy living, so use natural ingredients which have antibiotic properties to heal the boils on your inner thighs.

Natural Home Remedies for Boils:

Boils can be healed on their own within a week to 10 days but to speed up the healing process and to relieve you from the pain, try these natural home remedies regularly.

Remedy – 1: (Tea Tree Oil)

Tea tree oil has terpinen – 4 – ol that exhibits antimicrobial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that kill the bacteria, relieves you from itching and reduces your pain to get rid of boils.

  • Dilute few drops of tea tree oil and lavender oil in a bowl of warm water.
  • Then soak a clean washcloth in this water and squeeze it to remove excess water.
  • Place this warm compress on the boils affected skin areas and wait for 10 – 15 minutes till the cloth cools down.
  • Repeat the same process for 3 – 5 times daily till you cleared the boils.

Tea Tree Oil for Boils on Inner Thighs

Note:

  • Or mix few drops of tea tree oil in 1 tablespoon of carrier oil (coconut oil or almond oil or olive oil). Apply this mix on boils using a cotton ball. Rinse off with water after few minutes.
  • Also, soak a cotton swab in tea tree oil and place it directly on the boils. If you’ve stinging sensation, then dilute tea tree oil with few drops of water and then apply it on the boils.

Remedy – 2: (Onions)

Onions have antiseptic, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that heal your boils. It acts as an irritant and absorbent that draws out the heat from your boil and thus promotes eruption.

  • Cut a fresh red onion into thick slices and place them on the boil.
  • Cover it with a cloth like a poultice and replace the onion slices for every 2 – 3 hours.
  • Continue doing the same regularly till the boil erupts and drains.

Note:

  • Or mix 1/4 teaspoon of honey in 1 teaspoon of fresh onion juice and apply it on the boil affected areas. Rinse off with lukewarm water after few minutes. Repeat it regularly.
  • Or simply apply freshly prepared onion juice or paste or any other onion extract on the boils to get relief from the problem.

Remedy – 3: (Turmeric)

Turmeric has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that fight against the bacteria and relieves you from the pain. It has blood purifying and detoxifying nature that clears itching and boost up your immunity.

  • Mix 1 – 2 teaspoons of turmeric powder with enough water to make a thick paste.
  • Apply it on the boil infected inner thighs and let it sit for 20 – 30 minutes.
  • Then after, rinse off with water and dry the area.
  • Regular follow – up of this process will bring the boil to a head and burst it quickly for a faster relief.

Note:

  • Or mix turmeric powder with vinegar and milk cream (or garlic juice with turmeric) to make a paste. Apply it on the boils and rinse off after 10 – 15 minutes to get relief from the pain.
  • Also, drink turmeric milk prepared by mixing 1/2 – 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder in 1 glass of milk. Drink it twice daily to get rid of pain and discomfort caused by the boils.

Remedy – 4: (Neem)

Neem or Indian lilac has antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that give relief from boils on the inner thighs.

  • Grind a handful of neem leaves with some turmeric powder and water to make a paste.
  • Spread this paste on the boils affected area and let it sit for about 30 – 45 minutes.
  • Rinse off with water and dry the area thoroughly.
  • Do the same process for few times daily till you get relief from the boils on the inner thighs.

Note: Or boil few fresh neem leaves in a pan of water for few minutes till the water remains half of its original quantity. Allow the mix to cool and strain it. Use this neem water to rinse your affected area.

Remedy – 5: (Apple Cider Vinegar)

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) has many essential acids, nutrients, and enzymes that break down the boil’s layer and penetrate deep into the skin to clear the problem from the root. It has antimicrobial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that help you to get relief from itching, pain and thereby infection.

  • Pour some water in 2 tablespoons of organic ACV and stir well.
  • Dip a cotton ball in this mix and dab it on the boils.
  • Leave it on for few minutes and repeat the process few times daily till the boil opens up and drains.

Note:

  • Or mix equal parts of raw honey and organic ACV. Apply it on the boil affected area and rinse off with lukewarm water after 15 – 20 minutes. Repeat it for twice daily.
  • Also, mix 1 tablespoon of ACV and 1 teaspoon of honey in 1 glass of lukewarm water. Stir well and drink it to get relief from inside the body.

Tips and Precautions:

  1. If you’re symptoms persists or having a fever with pain even after 10 days, then consult your doctor for proper diagnose and treatment.
  2. Placing a warm compress on the boils affected inner thighs will increase the blood circulation and clears infection quickly. Place a cloth squeezed from warm water over your boil for several times till the boil erupts and pus drains out.
  3. Epsom salt is highly absorbent and drying agent that draws out the impurities and toxins from the skin to heal boils. Soak in the bathwater dissolved with 1 cup of Epsom salt (OR) soak a cloth in a mix (1/4 cup of Epsom salt in 2 cups of warm water). Squeeze it and place it on the boil for 10 – 15 minutes.
  4. Also, apply cornmeal paste or fresh milk cream or crushed garlic cloves or castor oil on the boils to get rid of the problem.
  5. Include fresh fruits and vegetables, foods rich in vitamins (E, A & C) and zinc in your daily diet to enhance your immunity and to get rid of boils now and then.
  6. Never ever squeeze or lance a boil, as it causes swelling and pain and thus spreads the infection to the surrounding skin areas.
  7. Gently rinse off the boil and its surrounding areas using a loofah regularly will prevent bacteria and excess oil buildup on the skin and relieves you from the problem.
  8. It’s suggested to clean the cuts or wounds immediately and cover it with a bandage for faster healing and to prevent bacteria.

  • Mix 5 crushed aspirin with enough lukewarm water till it forms a smooth paste.
  • Then add some plain yogurt to this paste and stir well.

  • Wait for few minutes to get dry and rinse off with water by massaging gently with your fingers.

Note: Or dissolve 7 – 8 aspirin tablets in enough green tea and then add few drops each of sweet almond oil and honey. Stir well and apply it to your face and neck. Rinse off with water after 15 minutes to maintain young and flawless skin.

The discoloration of the skin caused due to the sun damage will be repaired by using aspirin. The AHA and BHA content in aspirin will help to soothe the irritated skin and pain along with retaining the original color of the skin.

Lemon juice used in this process will slow down the oxidation process and thereby keep the skin glow with an even tone. Curd or yogurt heals the sunburns and also eliminates tan from the skin.

  • Powder 5 uncoated aspirin tablets in a small bowl.
  • Add 1 tablespoon each of fresh lemon juice and yogurt in powder.
  • Stir well to make a fine refreshing paste and apply it on the sun damaged (or sun-exposed) skin areas.
  • Wait for 10 minutes to rinse off with water.
  • Pat dry the skin and apply this aspirin paste regularly till you get a complete relief from sunburns or suntans.

Note: Also add a few drops of olive oil to this aspirin mix before applying on the sunburn or suntan affected skin areas.

Method – 9: (Aspirin Face Mask for Dry Skin)

The combination of aspirin and honey will help you in dealing with dry skin and acne breakouts. They help to hold the moisture and prevent the skin from getting dry.

  • Grind 4 – 5 aspirin tablets and add 1 teaspoon of water to it.
  • Stir well and add 1 tablespoon of raw honey and 3 – 4 drops of almond oil to it.
  • Mix all these ingredients to make a fine paste.
  • Apply it on the skin and rinse off with lukewarm water after 20 minutes.

  • Dissolve 4 aspirin tablets in 1/2 teaspoon of warm water and then add 1 teaspoon of honey.
  • Stir well to form a fine paste and apply this paste on the affected skin areas.
  • Wait for 10 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water.
