It occurs when the hair follicles get infected with the bacteria or when the hair follicles either fails to exit the skin while re-growing or twist back around and re-enters the skin in another place. A cold compress is an effective way which gives an instant relief from the burning sensation, irritation, and itching caused by razor bumps. It helps to soothe the area to reduce the pain and inflammation along with redness and itching.
- Using this cold compresses as a first aid and reduce redness and itching to prevent razor bumps from forming.
- Take a few ice cubes and wrap it in a thin towel.
- Place this ice pack as a cold compress on the affected areas.
- Leave it for a few minutes and take out the compress.
- Repeat the same action for several times daily until you get rid of the problem.
- Or simply soak a cloth in cold water and place it on the affected areas. Leave it for a few minutes and take it out. Continue this process several times daily.
- Or else splash your skin with cold water immediately after shaving to prevent razor burn.
- Also, follow some hot compress by dipping a clean cotton cloth in warm water and place it on the affected areas for a few minutes. This will open the skin pores and let the hair in the affected area to get free. But make sure to follow this remedy right after shaving.
Remedy – 2: (Apple Cider Vinegar)
Apple cider vinegar (ACV) exhibits anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that help to skin to heal quickly from the swelling and burning sensation along with preventing the bacterial action.
It has acetic acid that helps to prevent the formation of infection and itching. Regular usage of ACV will balance your skin’s pH levels and give quick relief from razor bumps.
- Take some apple cider vinegar (ACV) in a small bowl.
- If you’ve dry or sensitive skin then dilute ACV with some water.
- Apply this mix to the affected areas by using a cotton ball.
- Let it air dry naturally and rinse the area with water.

- Take a black tea bag and dip it in warm water.

Note: Also, try green tea bags or any other herbal tea bags instead of black tea bags.

- Take some raw honey and spread it directly on the irritated skin. Leave it to dry naturally and then rinse the area with cold water. Pat dry the skin and repeat the same process several times daily.
- Add 1/2 teaspoon of organic honey in 1/2 tablespoon of plain yogurt and stir well. Apply it on the affected areas and massage gently. Let it sit for about 15 – 20 minutes and wash the area with lukewarm water. Repeat the same process for 3 – 4 times daily till you healed the razor bumps.

- Simply apply the freshly extracted cucumber juice to the affected area using a cotton pad. Rinse off after a few minutes.

- Mix 3 – 5 drops of tea tree oil in 1 tablespoon of olive oil.

- Shave your unwanted hair in the body after taking bath or shower and use good quality shaving creams to prevent these razor bumps or razor burns.
- Use proper shaving techniques or choose other ways to remove your unwanted hairs like waxing or hair removal creams (in case of women) for men, use a clean needle to release the shaft while you notice a razor bump forming.
- Applying hydrocortisone cream to the affected skin bumps will keep the irritation and inflammation at bay. Also, the application of some soothing natural oils like coconut oil, almond or vitamin E oil, olive oil, etc. will help to relieve your pain and irritation.
