Orange smoothie for Cold

The orange smoothie is one of the best natural remedies for fighting off cold and cough of its high vitamin C content. The antioxidant properties of Vitamin C help to alleviate the symptoms of cold and flu such as a sore throat, runny nose, coughing, etc. Vitamin C strengthens the immune system and reduces the duration and occurrence of a common cold.

Oranges are also a potent source of dietary fiber that enhances satiety and provides a feeling of fullness which in turn prevents overeating and reduces total calorie intake throughout the day.

Dietary fiber also aids digestion by improving the release of enzymes in the stomach. The phytonutrients in oranges have strong anti-inflammatory properties and they also help to lower high blood pressure and cholesterol.

Almond Milk used as a thinning agent in this smoothie helps to adjust the consistency as per your liking. Almond milk is much lower in calories and fat compared to whole milk and it contains a wholesome amount of vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant that helps to neutralize free radical damage and reduces the risk of heart disease. Oleic acid, the main fatty acid found in almonds changes the blood lipids and reduces the level of harmful LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.

Honey not only adds a nice sweet taste to the smoothie but also supplies wholesome amount of antioxidants in the form of phenols, enzymes and flavonoids that helps to reduce inflammation and prevent heart attack, stroke and certain types of cancer.

The antioxidants in honey and help to lower blood pressure and reduce the level of total and LDL cholesterol in the blood while raising the level of healthy HDL cholesterol significantly. Honey also helps suppress cough and improve sleep quality.

Ingredients:

  • Orange – 2
  • Almond Milk – ½ cup
  • Honey – 1 tablespoon (or)
  • Stevia Powder – ½ tablespoon

Orange Smoothie for cold

Procedure:

  • Peel the oranges and slice it properly.
  • Toss the orange slices and unsweetened almond milk into the blender.
  • Now add honey (or) stevia powder to it and blend it on high speed until smooth.
  • Pour this smoothie into a glass and drink it immediately to grab the nutritional benefits in this smoothie.

This is a 100% gluten and dairy-free smoothie that does not contain cow’s milk or yogurt which makes it suitable for people with gluten and lactose intolerance. This smoothie can also be modified to suit diabetics by omitting the honey.
